Followers Cape

Overview

One of the absolute rarest capes in existence. Given personally by Notch to a handful of community members during Minecraft's earliest development. Fewer than 20 known holders.

The Followers Cape is among the very rarest items in all of Minecraft, given personally by Notch, the game's creator, to a tiny group of early followers and supporters during the Indev and Infdev development eras. With fewer than 20 known holders, it predates virtually every structured cape distribution and exists only because of direct, personal recognition from the creator himself. There was no event, purchase, or campaign behind it: you simply had to be one of the earliest people Notch chose to thank when Minecraft was still a fledgling project. That makes it a near-mythical collectible whose holders are essentially part of Minecraft's founding folklore.

How to Get the Followers Cape

Given to very early Minecraft followers and supporters during the Indev/Infdev era by Notch directly.

The Followers Cape is no longer obtainable. The window to earn it has closed, and Mojang does not sell or re-issue it. Buying or selling accounts to acquire it breaks Minecraft's usage rules. Players who already own it can keep using it.

History & Rarity

Indev and Infdev were extremely early development phases of Minecraft in 2010, before the beta era, when the game and its community were tiny. During this period Notch handed the Followers Cape to a handful of dedicated early supporters as a personal gesture. Because the community was so small at the time and the cape was never re-issued, the holder count is understood to be under 20, making it arguably the scarcest cape in existence. Its history is inseparable from Minecraft's origin story and from Notch's direct involvement in the earliest days of the game.

In rarity terms the Followers Cape is classed as Legendary. It became visible in the Java cape system around version Indev, and it is currently no longer obtainable.

How to Equip the Followers Cape

The Followers Cape is a Java Edition cape on a handful of original early-supporter accounts. Those rare holders select it from the cape carousel on their minecraft.net Java profile; it is non-transferable.

On Java Edition, capes are managed from your minecraft.net profile, not from inside the game:

  1. Sign in at minecraft.net with the Microsoft account that owns the cape.
  2. Open your Minecraft: Java Edition profile page (Profile, then the skins/capes area).
  3. Find the cape carousel and select Followers Cape.
  4. Save your selection; the cape appears on your character the next time you load the game.
