Translator Cape
Overview
A globe-themed cape awarded to dedicated translators. Still technically available for outstanding translation contributors, though rarely given.
The Translator Cape is a globe-themed cloak awarded to community members who made significant contributions to localising Minecraft into the many languages it supports. Translation work for the game is handled through the Crowdin platform, where volunteers translate and proofread the in-game text. The cape recognises the most dedicated of those contributors. Unlike most rare capes, it is one of the few that can technically still be earned, since translation is ongoing, but it is given out so selectively that the holder pool stays very small. It is a badge of genuine, sustained service to the project rather than something tied to a single event or purchase.
How to Get the Translator Cape
Given to community members who contributed significantly to translating Minecraft into various languages via Crowdin.
This cape can still be earned, but only under the specific conditions above. It is not sold and is given out selectively.
History & Rarity
As Minecraft grew internationally, Mojang relied on community translators to bring the game to dozens of languages, organising that effort through Crowdin. The Translator Cape emerged early (around the 1.1 era) as a thank-you for outstanding localisation work. Because it rewards effort rather than attendance or a deadline, it has no hard cut-off, which is unusual among the rare capes. However, Mojang grants it sparingly to only the most impactful contributors, so it remains very rare in practice even though the door is not formally closed.
In rarity terms the Translator Cape is classed as Very Rare. It became visible in the Java cape system around version 1.1, and it is currently still obtainable under limited conditions.
How to Equip the Translator Cape
The Translator Cape is a Java Edition cape granted to the contributor's account. If you have earned it, select it from the cape carousel on your minecraft.net Java profile.
On Java Edition, capes are managed from your minecraft.net profile, not from inside the game:
- Sign in at minecraft.net with the Microsoft account that owns the cape.
- Open your Minecraft: Java Edition profile page (Profile, then the skins/capes area).
- Find the cape carousel and select Translator Cape.
- Save your selection; the cape appears on your character the next time you load the game.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still earn the Translator Cape?
Technically yes — it is one of the few rare capes without a hard deadline, because Minecraft translation via Crowdin is ongoing. However, Mojang awards it very sparingly to only the most outstanding contributors, so it remains extremely difficult to obtain.
How is Minecraft translation work organised?
Localisation is handled through the Crowdin platform, where community volunteers translate and proofread the game's text into many languages. Significant contributors to that effort are the ones recognised with the cape.
What does the Translator Cape look like?
It is a globe-themed cape, reflecting its connection to translating Minecraft for a worldwide, multilingual player base.
Does contributing a single translation guarantee the cape?
No. The cape is reserved for sustained, high-impact contributions, not one-off edits, which is why so few translators hold it.
